Nesli is a lecturer in the Department of Psychology, Karadeniz Technical University (Türkiye), as well as a Visiting Researcher in the Department of Psychology at the University of Southampton (UK).
Her research areas examine digital technologies—such as virtual reality—as part of stress paradigms and their potential to enhance theory-driven treatments for anxiety. She is also interested in understanding the theoretical basis of how mobile applications for anxiety—including mindfulness tools—operate as digital interventions and how this differs from traditional, in-person approaches in improving well-being.
Nesli cares about improving how statistics is taught, encouraging open and transparent research practices, and making statistical tools easier and more fun to use in the social sciences. Outside of work, she supports initiatives for the welfare of homeless animals (and reads stats books).
Patricio is an Assistant Professor at the University of O'Higgins (Chile). Also, he is the Director of the Institute of Social Sciences of the same university. His research focuses on how perceptions of the political context can predict non-participants' support for protest violence against the police. In particular, through his research, he explores how people may hold contradictory ideas about the legitimacy of protest violence, the role of media coverage of protests, and non-participants' solidarity with those who have to face repressive measures in the streets. To address these topics, Patricio has conducted survey-based studies, experiments, and interviews in diverse countries.
Patricio is passionate about teaching stats for social sciences at different levels, encouraging open science, and supporting the adoption of open source statistical software.
